Meet Your Midwife

My name is Aubrey Severne, and I’m a licensed midwife serving Redding and the surrounding areas. I’m the eldest daughter of six, with one amazing sister and four wild and wonderful brothers. My faith as a Christian and my love for my family are the central pillars of my life. When I’m not attending births, I enjoy hiking, exploring our beautiful local waterfalls, reading literature, baking, writing poetry, doing puzzles, church involvement, and making my own sourdough & kombucha!

My Midwifery Journey

I consider birth to be sacred. My journey as a midwife started at a young age, as I observed the process of labor through our livestock of goats, sheep, and cattle. I was also present for the home births of my youngest two brothers. The experience of each of these births is significant in my memory, and I instinctively became familiar with the intimate, sacred, and relational nature of birth. Collectively, these memories, along with my experiences as a doula and midwifery student, have instilled in me an immense reverence for the journey of motherhood, as well as a deep trust for the natural birthing process.

Education

When I felt God calling me to midwifery, I had no idea of the journey it would take to bring me to where I am today. As a student midwife I was blessed to work with many of our local midwives, which gave me the great benefit of experiencing a variety of philosophies and practices. I completed a four year Bachelor of Science program in Midwifery, with over three years of hands-on clinical experience, working in the roles of doula, birth assistant, and primary midwife. I hold the titles of Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) from the North American Registry of Midwives and Licensed Midwife (LM) from the Medical Board of California.

Philosophy of Practice

My own practice is built on my beliefs and values of individualized care, respect for the birthing process, woman autonomy, informed consent, and an acknowledgment of the mystical in this work. I believe the client-midwife relationship is not a business relationship, but a connection built on mutual trust, understanding, and respect. I strive to provide the type of care that I would want to receive myself, and to tailor my services to the needs of each individual woman I work with.
